[ANYAA ZONAL] – [30th May 2025]

THEME: LET THE WATER FLOW

In a concerted effort to tackle sanitation challenges and mitigate flooding, NADMO Anyaa Zonal , residents, Ga Central Municipal Assembly ( Anyaa Zonal council), Clubs and Assembly members came together for a massive clean-up and desilting exercise on 30th May 2025, Friday morning at School Junction, Anyaa.

Organized by NADMO,Anyaa Zonal Council in collaboration with the municipal assembly ( Anyaa Zonal Council) and Assembly member Mr. Agbota the exercise aimed to address years of poor drainage conditions and indiscriminate dumping that have contributed to recurrent flooding and poor hygiene in the area.

Cleaning with a Purpose

The day began with NADMO AZC personnel, volunteers, clubs including the Assembly member assembling at key points along major drains and road shoulders. Armed with shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, and trucks, the teams worked together to remove silt, plastic waste, weeds, and other debris clogging the drains and gutters.

According to NADMO officers on site, the drain had not been desilted for years, leading to water stagnation, mosquito breeding, and frequent overflows during the rainy season.

"The goal is to make these drains functional again," said The NADMO Zonal director Mr Samuel Aidoo . "If we don’t maintain our environment, we endanger our own health and property."

Strong Community Participation

The exercise witnessed active participation from community members, especially youth groups, market women, and residents who had earlier been sensitized on the importance of sanitation and flood prevention.

Local Assembly Members and Unit Committee leaders mobilized residents ahead of the event, ensuring that every hand was on deck. NADMO AZC with the aid of the municipal Assembly provided tools and refreshments, showcasing strong ownership of the initiative.

"We are happy to see this kind of unity," said a resident, Madam Elizabeth Akua Dansoa. "We have suffered from flooding every year, but with this kind of action, we hope things will change."

Looking Ahead

NADMO Anyaa Zonal council  ( AZC) used the opportunity to educate the public on proper waste disposal and encouraged residents to avoid dumping refuse into gutters. Plans are also underway to enforce sanitation by-laws and create a maintenance schedule for regular desilting.

"This is not a one-time event," said Mr. Samuel Avisey, NADMO AZC Head of Operations , who joined in the clean-up. "We are committed to creating a sustainable sanitation culture, and we urge the community to stay involved."

The 1st Deputy Director of NADMO Ga Central Municipality, Mr. Bernard Edah and the Head of Operations, Mr Enchil also came to support the exercise. They pledged their support reiterating the unwavering commitment of the NADMO Municipal Director Mr Hakeem Asamoah to this important course.
